Advanced Computer Skills and Applications
This 18-week class is composed of instructional modules designed to provide hands-on instruction in basic keyboarding skills, computer concepts and software/office applications. The software/office applications include word processing, desktop publishing, presentation software, spreadsheets, and databases. Communications skills and basic mathematical concepts are reinforced in this course. Emphasis is on daily use of a computer system and appropriate software to provide integrated training through a learn/practice/sustain/assess plan of skill building. The combination of Keyboarding & Word Processing and Advanced Computer Applications can provide middle school students with skills needed to become productive citizens in the twenty-first century. This course is divided into two sections (1) Introduction to Office Productivity and (2) Office Productivity and Applications.

Intro to Office ProductivityWord Processing: Advanced DocumentsAdvance Word Processing-This module is designed to teach the advanced skills in document formatting for business documents: agendas, minutes, research reports and resumes.

Office Productivity ApplicationsAdvance SpreadsheetsAdvanced Spreadsheets-This module is designed to teach advanced features of spreadsheets: Charts and Advanced Functions that can be used fore everyday and the work place.

Spreadsheet BasicsSpreadsheets-This module is designed to teach the basic skills in spreadsheets and utilizing formulas for everyday use in the business community.
Presentation Basics & TechniquesPresentation Basics-This module is designed to teach the techniques and skills needed to make a presentation. Communication skills are a key component of this module.

Database BasicsDatabase Basics-This module is designed to teach the basic skills in database creation, using tables, and the manipulation of information in the form of queries.
Desktop PublishingDesktop Publishing-This module is designed to teach the basic skills in desktop publishing. Topics may include the production of business cards, brochures, advertisements, and newsletters.
